KIRKLAND LAKE, ON – Local entrepreneur Laura McCulloch knows a lot about cleaning.
She is the owner of Diamond Clean, right here in Kirkland Lake.
McCulloch said she was inspired to start this cleaning business because, for about six years, she has been helping many different people—ranging from the elderly to those with disabilities.
“As I helped, I saw there was a high demand for cleaning services,” McCulloch expressed. “Another reason that inspired me was that I, as a person, like to help and am not afraid of the jobs clients request.”
She began the business on March 27, 2023, and offers weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly house cleanings, deep cleans, laundry service, move-in and move-out cleanings, church cleanings, and Airbnb cleaning.
She explained that they also offer shopping for clients, organizing any room, or even just tidying up cupboards.
“As we grow, we look at demand and what we can offer, always striving to meet our clients’ needs,” McCulloch said. “The primary clients we have at the moment are seniors, a few local Airbnb hosts, and family homes.”
She said her business stands out because of the price clients pay.
“We charge a flat rate for each job, but for Airbnb cleanings, we charge by the hour,” McCulloch explained. “Charging a flat rate makes it easier for seniors or people on fixed incomes to get the work they need done without feeling like the price is too much. This also helps clients who need services more often and makes it more affordable for them.”
McCulloch said they offer a line of products that are child- and pet-friendly.
“The brand of this product is called Ecosense,” McCulloch said. “It doesn’t contain chlorine bleach, ammonia, formaldehyde, phthalates, or parabens. It’s also made with 99% biodegradable ingredients. We offer all-purpose cleaner, window cleaner, and tub and tile cleaner. I always tell clients about these products because they’re eco-friendly and safe.”
McCulloch said Diamond Clean strives for client satisfaction.
“It’s all about what we can do for the client,” she added. “Our best work is always done with the client’s needs in mind. In this line of work, you need to show that you are good at cleaning, and it also helps when we clean the way the client wants. We’ve found over the years that if clients aren’t happy, it’s usually not repeat business.”
McCulloch said some days can be challenging, especially with managing cleaning bookings.
“The reason I say this is because you never really know what a job will be like until you get there, or how long it will actually take,” McCulloch explained. “For example, if I have three cleanings in one day, and they are all house cleanings, it’s possible to complete all three, as long as there’s no extra work. But if there is extra work, it can delay the schedule. To overcome this, I follow a guideline I’ve set for us: two time slots a day—usually 9:30 AM and 2:00 PM. This gives each job a set amount of time to complete the cleaning without rushing.”
Diamond Clean is proud to contribute to the community by making services affordable and trustworthy for local residents.
“Last year, we sponsored the ‘Rock Solid Wrestling Match’ when they came to Kirkland Lake, and all the proceeds went toward Community Living, which supports people with disabilities in the community,” McCulloch said.
McCulloch is optimistic about the future.
“As Diamond Clean grows, we may add more services based on what will benefit our clients,” McCulloch explained. “If there’s a service that others may need as well, we’re open to adding it. We’d also like to take on more clients, which would generate the need for more staff.”
McCulloch really enjoys what she does.
“The most rewarding thing about running my own business is the recognition people give when they tell others about our services,” McCulloch said. “During the first year of business, word-of-mouth advertising was huge. I’ve found that it’s one of the best ways to get the word out. All you have to do is continue doing your best and meeting expectations
Would like you to have a look at our home and give us a price, probably every 2 weeks. Thanks
